2016 Anti p roliferative Activity of Lilium candidum A lkaloid E xtract on Human Breast Cancer Cell Line journal of pharmaceutical science and research
Cancer is an uncontrolled cell division that grows and spreads all over the human body. Chemotherapyof cancercancause further damage ofthe patients’health. Therefore, there is aneedon usingplant extracts as an alternative treatmentagainst cancerThe leavesof the plants wereextracted withmethanol (80%),chloroform at pH 2 and pH 10 and the chloroform portion was dried to obtainthe total alkaloid extracts. The total alkaloids were detected qualitatively by Mayer’s andDragendorff’sreagents and estimated quantitativelyusing bromocresol green,depending on theQuininecalibration curve.Itsantiproliferative activity wasmeasuredusingthe MTT assay.Thealkaloids extract ofLilium candidumshowed cytotoxicactivity againstbreast cancercell line(MCF-7)with IC50of 244.8μg/ml.This study indicatesthatLilium candidumalkaloids extractcan beused as an efficienttraditional anticanceralternative medicineat moderatlylow dosage
