2020 Seroprevalence of ehrlichiosis in stray dogs in Nineveh Province EurAsian Journal of BioSciences
Abstract Background: Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis (CME) is a tick-borne disease that causes severe illness in dogs, particularly in tropical and subtropical areas including Iraq. The goal of this work was to determine the seroprevalence of CME disease in stray male and female dogs in Nineveh province, .Iraq Materials and Methods: Eighty-eight blood samples of stray dogs have examined for the presence .of Ehrlichia canis by indirect ELISA method Results: Among the canine individuals with positive CME 10.2% (9/88) have E. canis-specific antibodies. No significant association found between age and gender to infection severity Conclusions: In conclusion, the findings of this study, CME is not related to the gender and age of the dogs. Such seroprevalence studies could play a key role in efforts to achieve and maintain the .elimination of E.canis
