2023 Performance evaluation of a novel ejector absorption refrigeration cycle combined with two flash tanks Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering
Improvement in the COP (coefficient of performance) of the NH3/ H2O ejector-flash tank-absorption refrigeration systems remains challenging wherein the COP of the usual vapor compression cycle is higher than the former ones. However, the COP of these systems can be customized by enhancing their system components’ efficiencies. Based on these factors, we proposed a combined structure using ejector and 2 flash tanks to increase the COP of the traditional absorption refrigeration cycle. In this strategy, a detachable flash tank was inserted in-between the evaporator and condenser for improving the ejector’s entrainment ratio and evaporator’s cooling effect. Furthermore, another flash tank was attached in-between the absorber and generator worked on the lower generator thermal load thereby boosting the system’s COP. Second law of thermodynamics was applied to analyze the performance of the cycle before and after modification. In addition, a thermoeconomic analysis of the cycles was performed to specify the effects of different operational parameters on the cost of the product. Compared to the unmodified cycle, the COP and COPexe (exergetic efficiency of the cycles) of the proposed system were significantly enhanced up to 18% and 10.11%, respectively, and the product cost was reduced by 8.5%.
